Passwords weren’t built for the way we use the internet today.

They were built for simpler days, when you had a handful of logins to remember. When “security” meant you were intelligent enough not to use the same password everywhere

Now you have hundreds of accounts spanning personal, work, banking, entertainment, and business.

And have our password habits matured? If they have, it’s probably not enough.

Enter companies like 1Password and LastPass. Systems to encourage us to use stronger passwords – ones we could never remember nor wish to hand type from that post it note you keep on your desk.

But the password is dying. In its place we are welcoming more reliable systems: 2FA/MFA, passcodes, and my personal favorite: temporary login links or one time codes sent via email or SMS.

That’s what we’re building next at Paid Memberships Pro. Send the magic link > Click > You’re in.

It’s a small update for a more secure membership site.

. . . and while I am on the topic of login security, I strongly advise you to install the Two-Factor Authentication plugin for WordPress and require it for your administrators, membership managers, editors, authors… basically, anyone who can see or change things in the admin.
