We send a “Team Update” post every Monday in Slack. It takes a few minutes for Kristy to prep and schedule the Friday before.
It sets the tone for the week ahead, keeps everyone updated across teams, and shares details on metrics that matter.
(I almost didn’t post this because it seems like an obvious thing. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. But if it helps one team improve, it was worth posting.)
Here’s what we include:
* Who’s Out This Week
Start with people. If someone is on PTO or reduced hours, call it out early so nobody waits around or sends the wrong DM. Even though this data is on the team calendar, it’s a nice “in your face” reminder of who is around when.
* Standing Meetings + Optional Events
List what’s happening, when, and who it’s for.
* Cycle Work Focus
Share the big work each person is tackling this week. Yes, your support team is curious and will get excited to know what dev is working on.
* Weekly Metrics
We drop in one or two relevant business metrics to keep everyone grounded in real impact.
This update goes out every Monday. It anchors the week. It sets expectations. It builds trust. It also helps us do what our core values promise: Work like humans. Respect people’s time. Focus on what matters.
Here’s an example of what a complete update looks like (screenshot also attaached):
